Sender ID

The name or number displayed as the sender of an SMS message.

Definition

Sender ID is the alphanumeric name or phone number that appears as the sender when an SMS message is received. In India, sender IDs are regulated by TRAI and must be registered through the DLT platform.

In Depth

Sender ID formats vary by country and message type. In India, transactional SMS use 6-character alphabetic IDs (e.g., IN-BRAND), promotional SMS use numeric IDs, and service SMS use specific prefixes. Sender ID registration helps prevent spam and phishing.

Lodgestory manages sender ID registration and routing as part of SMS API setup.
